Tennessine

Tennessine is named after the state of Tennessee, home to Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Vanderbilt University, and the University of Tennessee, all of which contributed to its discovery. First synthesized in 2010 by a Russian-American collaboration at Dubna using berkelium targets produced at Oak Ridge, tennessine is the second-most-recently named element.

Tennessine is a superheavy halogen — the heaviest member of the fluorine-chlorine-bromine-iodine family. Its most stable isotope has a half-life of about 51 milliseconds. Scientists predict tennessine might not behave much like a typical halogen due to relativistic effects; it might even be metallic rather than a typical nonmetal. Only about 15 atoms of tennessine have ever been created.

Tennessine's symbol 'Ts' is a distinctive two-letter element in Spellement. While 'ts' is uncommon at the start of English words, it appears frequently at word endings. Partial emphasis allows using 't' or 's' individually — both are among the most common consonants in English, providing excellent word-building flexibility.
