Gallium

Gallium is the element that melts in your hand — literally. With a melting point of just 29.76 degrees Celsius (about 85.6 degrees Fahrenheit), a chunk of gallium will slowly turn into a silvery puddle from your body heat alone. It was discovered in 1875 by Paul Emile Lecoq de Boisbaudran, and it was one of the elements Mendeleev had predicted would exist based on gaps in his periodic table.

Gallium arsenide is a semiconductor used in LEDs, laser diodes, and solar panels — it is actually more efficient than silicon for some applications. Gallium is also used in medical thermometers as a safe replacement for mercury. A fun party trick: make a gallium spoon that melts when you stir hot tea with it!
