Copernicium

Copernicium is named after Nicolaus Copernicus, the astronomer who proposed that Earth revolves around the Sun rather than the other way around. This revolutionary idea changed science forever. The element was first synthesized in 1996 by Sigurd Hofmann and his team at GSI in Germany by bombarding lead with zinc atoms, producing a single atom that existed for less than a millisecond.
