Dubnium

Dubnium is named after Dubna, Russia, home of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research where many heavy elements have been discovered. First synthesized in 1968 by the Dubna team and in 1970 by an American team at Berkeley, dubnium was at the center of the 'Transfermium Wars' — a decades-long dispute over naming rights for elements 104-109 between American, Russian, and German labs.

Dubnium is produced by bombarding lighter elements with ions in particle accelerators. Only small numbers of atoms have been created, and its most stable isotope has a half-life of about 28 hours. Scientists have managed to study some of dubnium's chemical properties, finding that it behaves somewhat differently from what the periodic table would predict — it does not always mimic tantalum as expected.

Dubnium's symbol 'Db' is a distinctive two-letter element in Spellement. While 'db' is uncommon at word beginnings, partial emphasis allows spellers to use 'd' or 'b' individually — both common consonants that appear frequently in English words, providing creative flexibility for word construction.
