Argon

Argon is the lazy element — its name comes from the Greek word 'argos,' meaning idle or lazy, because it barely reacts with anything. Discovered in 1894 by Lord Rayleigh and William Ramsay, argon was the first noble gas to be isolated. It makes up nearly 1% of Earth's atmosphere, making it the third most abundant gas after nitrogen and oxygen.

Argon is used to create an inert atmosphere where oxygen would cause problems. Welders use argon gas to shield their work from oxidation, and it fills the space between double-pane windows for better insulation. Argon also produces a blue-violet glow in gas discharge tubes, similar to neon signs but with a different color.

Argon's symbol 'Ar' is excellent for Spellement. It naturally matches the beginning of words like 'art,' 'arm,' and 'are,' making it one of the most intuitive two-letter element symbols for word building. Its common letter pairing appears in hundreds of English words.
