Lead's symbol 'Pb' comes from 'plumbum,' its Latin name — which is also where we get the words 'plumbing' and 'plumber,' because ancient Romans built their water pipes from lead. Lead has been used for over 6,000 years, making it one of the oldest metals known to humanity.
